It's not too often that a higher ranking opponent goes into a game as the underdog. That's exactly what happened last night as #3 Boise State took on #10 Virginia Tech.
The game started out in Boise States favor as Virginia Tech struggled on offense and special teams. Virginia Tech found themselves trailing by 17 points early in the game. Boise State's momentum was strong and they were playing like they had a purpose.
However, as quickly as they took a 17-0 lead Virginia Tech came back and took the lead early in the fourth quarter. Virginia Tech fans were going crazy in the stands thinking they had come back to win the game. Boise quickly drove down the field and scored a touchdown putting them in the lead by 3 points with 1½ minutes to play.
All Virginia Tech needed was a field goal to send the game into overtime. This dream was crushed as well as their BCS national championship hopes, as they turned the ball over on downs with 30 seconds to play.
Boise State didn't really prove that they are the best team in the nation, however they did prove that they have the talent to play in the national spotlight.
