It's been over 20 years since the first Star Wars hit the big screen. As the film ages, it becomes more and more popular. Motorola hopes they can persuade the star wars crowd to purchase their new R2-D2 version of the Droid 2.
The phone is set to be released by Verizon this Thursday October 1, 2010. The purchase price is set at $249 after mail in rebate. That's 49$ more then the non R2-D2 version of the Droid 2.
Under the hood the phones are the exact same. However, the Motorola Droid 2 R2-D2 version sports a light gray casing, R2-D2 etchings and comes with a star wars collectible box.
Verizon hasn't stated how many units they will stock / sell. Seeing how it's a collectors item we would imagine that quantity will be limited.
