A Killer whale(orca whale) named Sumar died at SeaWorld in San Diego yesterday. They said Sumar began acting lethargic on Monday and they gave him an antibiotic. His condition became worse and worse until he passed away around 1:45 p.m on Tuesday afternoon.
With an average lifespan of 50-60 years for a male orca whale, park employees can't help but be a little shocked at the death. However, the show must go on! Less then 24 hours after the death of Sumar he was replaced by one of the 6 other killer whales in the park and the show will continue on Wednesday.
Sumar was approximately 15 feet long and weighed 5,300 pounds. He has been in the the San Diego park since 1999. Employees said Sumar was the star of the show and one of the top candidates for breeding.
