Two human cases of West Nile virus were reported this week -- one each in Allen and Marion counties. in addition, mosquito groups in 31 counties have tested positive for the virus.
Steps to protect yourself and your animals from West Nile virus:

* Apply insect repellent containing DEET or oil of lemon eucalyptus to clothes and exposed skin.
* Install or repair screens on windows and doors.
* Horse owners should have their animals vaccinated.
Steps to rid areas of potential mosquito breeding grounds include:
* Discard old tires, tin cans, plastic containers, and pots that can hold water.
* Repair failed septic systems.
* Drill holes in the bottom of recycling containers.
* keep grass short and shrubbery trimmed.
* Clean clogged roof gutters
* Replace water in pet bowls frequently.
* Flush ornamental fountains and birdbaths regularly.
