Vinny Servadio rushed 23 times for 176 yards and scored five touchdowns and New Hartford unleashed a powerful running game as the Spartans opened the football season with a 42-12 nonleague victory over Jamesville-DeWitt Friday at Don Edick Field. The Spartans rolled for 375 rushing yards behind a strong offensive line led by Jeff Cesare, Zach Shipley, Bryan Hoffman, Joe Talarico and Connor Cough. Mike Szczesniak added 99 yards on 16 carries, and Nick Levanti had 78 and a touchdown on 14 carries. Ahkeem Williams scored on a 1-yard run for J-D, and threw a 70-yard touchdown pass to Curtis Walker. Tyler Kallassy, Mike White and Jeff Cesare led a strong defense for New Hartford, which yielded 102 yards on the ground - 67 to Williams on 17 carries - and 120 in the air. The Spartans held a modest 12-0 lead at the half on a pair of 1-yard plunges by Servadio. they opened an 18-0 lead with a 66-yard drive at the start of the third quarter, capping it with yet another Servadio 1-yard run. New Hartford essentially put the game away when Servadio rumbled 35 yards to the 5, then scored two plays later from, again, from the 1. That made it 26-0 midway through the third quarter. Whitesboro 59, Oswego 0 Steve Almond ran for four touchdowns and 146 yards on 12 carries as Whitesboro High School rolled over Oswego. Sophomore Matt Felitto rushed for 83 yards and two scores.

Whitesboro’s defense dominated the game, allowing 60 total yards.

Herkimer 24, Frankfort-Schuyler 16 Sean Crandall ran for 115 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 92 yards and a score to lead the Magicians. Herkimer had seven takeaways for the game, and Wesley Bunce accounted for three of them. Bunce recovered a fumble and intercepted two passes, the last of which came with 54 seconds to play at midfield to seal the win. Terry Oldfield led the Herkimer defense with eight tackles and an interception. Mike Tomaino led Frankfort-Schuyler with 83 yards and a touchdown on nine carries, and Pat Fracolla ran for 76 yards. Chester kicked a 35-yard field goal and Nigolian returned one of his two interceptions 36 yards for another touchdown to seal the Warriors' victory.
