Committed players:

Quentin Gause continues his recruiting journal for Scarlet Nation. Interesting stuff, Gause definitely comes off as having a sharp mind.

Uncommitted players:Good news on NJ S Sheldon Royster.

ATH Sheldon Royster (5-11 190) of Jersey City, NJ spent much of Thursday at South Carolina touring the school and football facilities with his mother and aunt. Royster was escorted around campus by his recruiter GA Mangus. Royster spent the better part of seven hours in Columbia. Right now, South Carolina and Rutgers are two of the strong teams with him.

Other sources are saying the same. South Carolina always seems to go after some Northeast prospects and never manages to sign any.

NJ OL Josue Matias has 22 offers, including his latest from Michigan (and yet he still doesn't have a rating or ranking on Rivals).

"I’ve been to the Rutgers Big Man Camp but I haven’t done any unofficial visits," Matias said. "I still haven’t decided which schools I want to visit.

"I know I want to take my official visits but I’m not sure where I’m going yet. I don’t want to commit to a school without visiting and seeing it. I’m going to keep all my options open for now."

State of Rutgers is holding a free chat next week with St. Peter's Prep coach Rich Hansen. call me cynical, but that could be trouble if not tightly moderated.

NJ TE Jack Tabb plans to visit Arkansas.

One new 2012 offer (I'm not really keeping track yet) is NJ LB Kaiwan Lewis.

“I mean, I love the school and the whole program,” he said. “they stay on top of their kids as far as their grades and staying in the classroom. I want to go somewhere I can stay focused and that seems like a place you can do that.

“the football program is really good. I went up there to see them practice and see if they were into it. I really liked it.”

Kristian Dyer made three predictions today on Angelo Mangiro, Jameel Poteat, and Terrell Chestnut. That'd be somewhat disappointing to lose the latter by a hair, although you can always find corners like Aiken in Florida. I've already long written off the other two, and in fact would rather have Huggins than Poteat (who's still a great prospect) anyway.

FL CB Johnathan Aiken has RU in his top four. FL RB Tre Mason has RU in his top five and seems to be showing interest, but what's with that bit about Syracuse? the latest article on FL DT Ruben Carter doesn't mention RU, which makes sense considering the two DT commits. FL CB Nick Waisome is down to a top five. FL DB Wayne Lyons has a list and RU isn't on it. FL CB Nick Waisome isn't 100% set on his stated top seven. FL WR Tacoi Sumler is about to announce a top five. FL ATH James Wilder Jr. is still probably going to Florida, but he was the recent victim of an internet recruiting hoax falsely claiming that he verbaled. Wilder is being promised the RB position, but there's a very strong possibility he will move to defense.

Greg Schiano will presumably be talking Florida recruiting tomorrow night on Miami radio. It'll be streamed on wqam.com.

It's way too early to talk about 2012, but here's an article on 2012 PA DE Noah Spence. Because he's from Bishop McDevitt, PSU may not be a big factor.

Are you curious as to what's with all the talk about the new 24/7 recruiting service? Kudos for Ben Koo for his excellent recent post on the topic. Short answer: the old Rivals management is starting a new recruiting network, and they're about to poach a lot of sites and personnel from ESPN, Scout, and Rivals, with the former two in an especially vulnerable position. there appears to be a mass exodus from ESPN's network, which is turning into a major bust considering all of the positive momentum it had a year ago. There's been a lot of recent publisher turnover at Scout too.

More on PSU's early slow recruiting (which will probably pick up soon to some extent).

Joe Paterno, 83, has not visited a prospect since Terrelle Pryor in late January 2008 at Jeannette High School -- Pryor, the country's no. 1 recruit, eventually chose Ohio State -- and offensive coordinator Galen Hall, 69, doesn't recruit at all.

Former RU HC Dick Anderson is getting a lot of slag for subpar recruiting too.

FL OL Zach DeBell committed to Georgia. FL OL Bobby Hart committed to FSU.

Watchlist: This is a section of this site's weekly recruiting posts featuring links to players that Rutgers may or may not be showing interest in, but has not yet offered.

Adrian Amos, Ronald "Duke" Baines, Dexter Bridge, Khari Brown, J.J. Denman, Lorenzo Fisher (with brief update on Malcolm Crockett), Javard Gaines, Levern Jacobs, Dillon Lucas, Garrett Lucas, Kendall Patterson, Donovan Riley, Elbie Williams, and Lamont Wims.
