Players will get the opportunity to help the families of military heroes this weekend as the fourth annual Patriot Golf Day is observed at golf facilities across the country, including many here on the Treasure Coast.

Golfer will be asked to donated an extra dollar when they pay their greens fees this weekend. The funds will go to the Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides scholarships to dependents of military personnel killed or wounded while in action.

Both Sandridge in Vero Beach and the Saints in Port St. Lucie also have special activities scheduled for Saturday.

At Sandridge, director of golf Bob Komarinetz will be giving 10-minute lessons for a donation. For appointments, call (772) 770-5003, ext. 2.

The Saints will have putting contest. For information, call (772) 398-2901.

The PGA Village in Port St. Lucie also has a full-slate of actives planned. this is because Patriot Golf Day is a joint venture of the PGA of America and the United States Golf Association. The schedule is as follows:

SATURDAY, 8 TO 10 A.M.: Opening Ceremonies, including a call to the colors; "21 Golf Ball Salute;" U.S. Coast Guard Amphibious Vehicle; performances scheduled by the Avenue D Boys Choir, Florida Arts and Dance Company, Marine Corps run, marching bands and more. The Ryder Cup Trophy will be on display at the PGA Historical Center. following the ceremonies, will be a golf trick shot show, Florida National Guard Interactive Kids Zone and a Junior Golf Carnival with games, contests and more. Families are welcome. Admission is free.

SATURDAY, 10:30 A.M.: John Shimkonis Memorial Medal Tournament at PGA Golf Club. this 18-hole, shotgun event, named in honor of the first PGA Professional to give his life while fighting for his country during World War II, will be a four-person scramble format. Proceeds from the entry fee of $75 benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation.

SATURDAY, 9 A.M. TO 1 P.M.: Free 10-minute golf lessons at PGA Center for Golf Learning and Performance. Donations of any amount will go to the Folds of Honor Foundation, golfers will receive a free lesson from a top PGA Professional at the PGA Center for Golf Learning and Performance. Donations will also be accepted throughout the weekend for prizes and drawings.

SUNDAY, ALL DAY: Flag Day Tournament at PGA Golf Club. each participant that donates $5 to the Folds of Honor Foundation will receive a small American flag.

MONDAY, ALL DAY: Labor Day Golf at PGA Golf Club and PGA Center for Golf Learning and Performance. Donations to the Folds of Honor Foundation through a Stableford scoring golf event, golf lessons and admission. A contribution of $5 per person is requested along with entrance fees.
